FTTC customers can now order full fibre on any plan
The change covers all 860,000 customers on Fibre to the Curb, which NBN Co says has higher fault rates than its other copper networks.
Since 1 July, NBN Co has not required a high-speed plan for a full fibre upgrade across the Fibre to the Curb footprint, which covers 860,000 customers. Previously, most had to order a service based on a 100/40 Mbps wholesale plan or above.
NBN Co says it is prioritising FTTC because the technology has higher fault rates than its other copper-based networks. An upgrade replaces the copper between the curb and the premises with fibre.
About 45,000 fibre upgrades were completed in May, 19 per cent more than a year earlier.
What to do
Ask your internet provider to request the upgrade. You can stay on your current speed if it suits you.
